This site presents the open source tools used and developed for visualisation of culture heritage. The flow starts with IDA which is a documentation tool. With it the material can be organised and the reconstruction process could be documented. Visualisation is made with Inkscape and Blender. The visualisation is shown by using application that renders the view with OpenSceneGraph.

Though there isn't an open
Though there isn't an open source complete 3D CAD program (with features comparable to those of Autocad, say), you should try using Blender, which is a powerful and extensible 3D modelling package.
See also MeshLab, an extensible system for the processing and editing of unstructured 3D triangular meshes, mostly useful as a pre-modelling tool. It can load and export many common 3D formats.
I am investigating the use
I am investigating the use of CAD in 3D modeling of heritage buildings from point clouds. I wish to examine open source packages.
Thanks
